Actress Jameela Jamil took to social media to open up about her Ehlers-Danlos syndrome diagnosis and educate others about the condition on TikTok, according to an article published in Newsweek. Experts explained that the syndrome—a connective tissue disorder—may cause extreme joint flexibility and heightened skin elasticity and fragility, as well as impact blood vessel walls. In a TikTok video, Ms. Jamil demonstrated the stretchiness of the skin on her face and how her elbows bent in the right and wrong directions. She also revealed that she has long been accused of fabricating the diagnosis, which has taken a toll on her mental health. “I’ve been through quite a lot of smear campaigns in the past … and everything just felt very hopeless and pointless. [It] felt so unsurvivable at times,” Ms. Jamil previously revealed in an interview on the Archetypes podcast. Ms. Jamil urged individuals who suspect they may have Ehlers-Danlos syndrome to make appointments with their primary care providers to help manage the symptoms of the disease.
