Niranjana Parthasarathi, MD, has released a new book, entitled Lupus: In the Jaws of the Wolf, detailing her journey with the disease, according to a press release from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). Dr. Parthasarathi, an alumnus of VCU, shared that her book was written from the perspective of both a patient and a physician—half memoir and half research-driven guide to navigating the disease. With the book’s publication, she hopes to inspire other patients with lupus to advocate for themselves, and help her fellow physicians recognize and connect with their patients. Dr. Parthasarathi emphasized that: “[In my experience], I have enough knowledge to question some of the treatment recommendations made. With an enigmatic disease such as lupus … there’s definitely sensitivity and knowledge to gain.” She concluded that all of the proceeds from the book will be gifted to the Lupus Foundation of America and Lupus Research Alliance.
