The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) announced that it has awarded five research projects to investigate posttreatment Lyme disease syndrome. The awards include $3.2 million for the first year of funding and will support research projects aimed at uncovering the mechanisms behind the persistence of posttreatment symptoms for 5 years. Among the recipients of the awards were researchers from Virginia Tech, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Tufts University, Johns Hopkins University, and Arizona State University.
