The Lupus Research Alliance announced the five recipients of the 2023 Career Development and Postdoctoral Awards to Promote Diversity in Lupus Research. The Career Development Award will provide four racial and ethnic minority researchers up to $600,000 over the course of 4 years; among the recipients were AlÍ Duarte-GarcÍa, MD, who will investigate glucocorticoid treatments; Maria Gutierrez-Arcelus, PhD, who will study lupus heterogeneity; Ekemini Ogbu, MD, MSc, who will aim to identify novel biomarkers in pediatric patients with systemic lupus erythematosus; and Jessica Williams, MD, MPH, who will examine barriers to lupus research in rural areas. Further, the Postdoctoral Award will provide Shady Younis, PhD, up to $170,000 over the course of 2 years to further examine the triggers of lupus in connection with the Epstein-Barr virus.
