According to a press release from EULAR, digital apps providing personalized video exercises may be effective at improving the physical function, quality of life, and exercise adherence of patients with rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases who are undergoing functional rehabilitation. The new findings were presented by Davergne et al at the EULAR 2023 Congress and simultaneously published in the Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases. In a new study, investigators examined data from 906 patients who used digital apps featuring the personalized video exercises and found that the patients reported small to moderate increases in physical function, confidence in exercise performance, exercise adherence, and quality of life. The investigators stressed that despite the positive findings, further trials will be needed to validate whether the digital apps are capable of leading to significant improvements in disease management.
