The Hospital for Special Surgery announced that Douglas E. Padgett, MD, has been appointed the new Surgeon-in-Chief and Medical Director. Dr. Padgett is currently Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the Weill Cornell Medical College and Chief Emeritus of the Adult Reconstruction and Joint Replacement Service at the hospital. Known for his leadership as well as his expertise in musculoskeletal health and the utilization of new technologies in joint reconstruction, Dr. Padgett hopes to strengthen the hospital’s quality care standards, educational opportunities, and research initiatives to improve patient outcomes. “I am deeply humbled by this honor and responsibility, and mindful of the giants on whose shoulders I will stand and those with whom I am privileged to serve alongside.
