The American College of Rheumatology (ACR) announced that Liana Fraenkel, MD, MPH, has been named President of the Rheumatology Research Foundation during the ACR Convergence 2023. Currently, Dr. Fraenkel serves as Adjunct Professor of Medicine at the Yale University School of Medicine as well as Director of Medical Education and Director of Population Health Research at Berkshire Health Systems—where she focuses her research on physician and patient decision-making and treatment preferences, influences on risk perception, new strategies to improve risk communication, and patient attitudes toward drug toxicity. Dr. Fraenkel has been a member of the ACR for over 30 years and also co-founded the Volunteers to Expand Rheumatology Access program, which was designed to improve access to rheumatologic care for patients who are uninsured or underinsured. She hopes to use her new role to expand the pipeline for rheumatology professionals and investigators, foster collaboration to support funding initiatives, and accelerate discoveries in the field of rheumatology. “The Foundation plays a critical role in ensuring that our patients will continue to benefit from exceptionally trained rheumatologists and new scientific breakthroughs. I’m honored to help spearhead these efforts,” Dr. Fraenkel concluded.
