In patients with knee osteoarthritis and central sensitization, over a year of follow-up, higher blood glucose levels were associated with deteriorated knee symptoms—worsened Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score pain, activities of daily living, and sports. In contrast, in patients with knee osteoarthritis without central sensitization, blood glucose levels were not longitudinally associated with knee symptoms. These findings were published by Chiba et al in Arthritis Research & Therapy.
