In an article published in NBC News, experts stressed that high-risk individuals should receive two doses of the JYNNEOS vaccine to protect against the mpox virus—even after the end of the current mpox outbreak. Cases of mpox have dropped from 30,000 in 2022 to 800 in 2023; however, public health officials consider any single case to be an outbreak. They recommended that men who have sex with men—especially those with multiple sex partners, those who have had sexually transmitted diseases, and those who may be at higher risk of infections through sexual contact—should receive the vaccines as soon as possible. The experts concluded that although 500,000 individuals have received JYNNEOS vaccines, 75% of those who are eligible have not yet been vaccinated against mpox.
