In an article published in Women’s Health, experts offered tips to eliminate facial redness. They explained that redness may stem from skin conditions such as rosacea, eczema, contact dermatitis, sunburn, and acne; practices like overexfoliation; or certain medications. Individuals who experience facial redness were advised to avoid facial products containing alpha hydroxy acids, salicylic acid; vitamin A–based products including retinol and prescription retinoids; abrasive scrubs; and benzoyl peroxide. Individuals can also wear a cool cloth, apply a mineral sunscreen, or sit in a cool place to relieve redness. The experts noted that individuals should use soothing ingredients like aloe, cucumber, or centella asiatica if making at-home face masks and, if opting for store-bought masks, purchase those containing anti-inflammatory silicone gel. Further, individuals should use mineral-based makeups that are hypoallergenic and won’t irritate the skin. Individuals who are unable to relieve their facial redness can communicate with their dermatologists about laser treatments.
