According to an article published in HealthDay, experts warned that the United States may be facing another mpox outbreak within the next few months after the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a report detailing inadequate mpox vaccination compliance among high-risk individuals. In the new report—published by Owens et al in the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report—investigators found that although cases of mpox have declined to about one per day, only 23% of individuals who may be vulnerable to an mpox outbreak have received a vaccine. Experts recommended that men who have sex with men, those with multiple sex partners, and patients who were previously infected with mpox should get vaccinated as soon as possible. Individuals should also monitor their skin for lesions and immediately visit a physician for testing if these are detected. Individuals who are unsure of where to receive their mpox vaccine can visit the CDC’s Mpox Vaccine Locator at cdc.gov.
