Vladimir Botchkarev, MD, PhD, received the 2023 Skin Ageing & Challenges Best Scientific Award for his research into the aging process of naked mole rats, according to a report issued during the Skin Ageing & Challenges Annual Conference 2023. Dr. Butchkarev currently serves as Professor of Dermatology and Co-Director of the Boston University Center for Aging Research—where he focuses his research on the epigenetic factors that influence processes such as skin stem cell activity, aging, wound healing, and carcinogenesis. In the study that garnered his award, Dr. Botchkarev analyzed the skin aging transcriptome in order to uncover how naked mole rats are resistant to age-related skin cancer. He hopes to use his findings as a model to better understand human skin biology.
