The University of Colorado School of Medicine announced that Maryam M. Asgari, MD, MPH, will join the university as the first Endowed Chair of the Department of Dermatology on May 1, 2023. Currently serving as Professor of Dermatology and Population Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Director of the Patient-Oriented Research in the Epidemiology of Skin Diseases Program at Massachusetts General Hospital, Dr. Asgari has almost 20 years of experience in Mohs micrographic surgery, skin cancer risk and etiology, as well as patient-oriented research and clinical practice. Known for her devotion to training and mentoring the next generation of dermatology professionals, Dr. Asgari has centered her career around building clinical care initiatives designed to strengthen career development, championing diversity and inclusion, and fostering collaborative environments that have allowed faculty and trainees to make significant scientific contributions to dermatology research and clinical practice. “I am eager to reshape and [broaden] a world-class academic dermatology department … where I see many opportunities to expand … clinical presence, research funding, and faculty. I am strongly committed to serving my community and collaborating with my colleagues,” Dr. Asgari concluded.
