The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) announced that Susan C. Taylor, MD, FAAD, has been elected President of the Academy. Dr. Taylor currently serves as the Bernett Johnson Professor of Dermatology and the Vice Chair of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, where she has focused her research on alopecia pigmentary disorders, advocated for improved patient care and health equity, and mentored the next generation of dermatologists. In 2004, Dr. Taylor founded the Skin Color Society with the goal of boosting representation in the field of dermatology for those with darker skin types. In her new role, she will lead almost 21,000 dermatology specialists in advancing the diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes of patients with dermatologic conditions. “I look forward to leading the [AAD] as we advocate for our specialty and for our patients. I bring a wealth of knowledge and experience into this position, and I plan to use that to tackle some of the most pressing issues dermatologists are facing,” concluded Dr. Taylor. In March 2024, she will be instated as the new President-Elect, and in March 2025, she will begin her 1-year term as President of the AAD.
