The Skin of Color Society received a $100,000 research grant from L’Oréal USA to boost clinical and translational research for skin diseases in patients with darker skin tones, according to an article published in Beauty Packaging. Broken into five $20,000 grants that will be awarded at the 19th Annual Skin of Color Society Symposium in conjunction with the 2023 American Academy of Dermatology Annual Meeting, the funding is expected to help advance the careers of five young dermatologists and improve the quality of life for patients with darker skin tones who have dermatologic conditions. “We … are committed to helping bridge the gap for [patients] of color and the dermatological conditions that affect them, as they are often underrepresented in research and health care. We are proud to support the mission of the Skin of Color Society and dermatologists dedicated to improving the lives of those with skin of color,” concluded Sanford Browne, President of the Division of Research & Innovation North America at L’Oréal.
