The Skin Cancer Foundation announced that it will celebrate the cosmetics company Shiseido Americas as well as the digital media and entertainment company Refinery29 at its 2024 Champions for Change Gala—an annual fundraising event to support educational initiatives, community programs, and research projects in skin cancer. The Champions for Change Gala will take place on May 15, 2024. Shiseido Americas, a longtime partner of the Foundation, will receive the Champions for Change Award for their commitment to sun safety and skin cancer prevention. Refinery29 will be honored with the Media Impact Award for their exemplary efforts to raise awareness for the risk of skin cancer from solar- and tanning bed–related ultraviolet radiation; through the Sun Blocked awareness campaign, the company has partnered with the Skin Cancer Foundation to call on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to ban individuals younger than 18 from using tanning beds. “The Foundation has made great strides over the years in educating the public about the importance of skin cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment, and our accomplishments would not be possible without the support of partners like Shiseido Americas and Refinery29,” concluded Deborah S. Sarnoff, MD, President of the Skin Cancer Foundation.
