The University of Virginia announced that Lu Q. Le, MD, PhD, has been appointed Chair of the Department of Dermatology at the university’s School of Medicine. Dr. Le will begin his new role at the University of Virginia on January 29, 2024. He currently serves as Professor of Dermatology and Associate Director of the Physician-Scientist Track of the Residency Program in the Department of Dermatology at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, as well as co-founding Director and an attending physician at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center Comprehensive Adult Neurofibromatosis Clinic in the Department of Dermatology and the Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Le has focused his research on understanding how cancer develops from adult stem cells, how adjoining noncancerous cells may help to manage cancer cell development, and the clinical care and biology of neurofibromatosis type 1. He is also a nationally renowned cancer biology researcher who is known for his dedication to increasing patient care standards, educating and mentoring the next generation of physicians and researchers, and securing critical funding to support novel cancer research. At the University of Virginia, he expects to implement a 10-year strategic plan aimed at expanding research initiatives, enhancing clinical care, and bolstering educational programs. “I believe strong leadership is all about providing strategic vision and opportunities to inspire and empower others to be their best and most productive selves,” Dr. Le concluded.
