The skin-care company La Roche-Posay partnered with OutCare Health, The Trevor Project, and Homeward NYC for its third annual Pride in Dermatology event to benefit LGBTQ+ patients who need dermatologic care, according to a press release from Cision PR Newswire. The event was held at the Gramercy Theatre in New York City on June 15, 2023, and featured appearances from several celebrities—including actress Vanessa Williams, comedian Judy Gold, and rapper DJ Cazwell. First launched in 2021 by La Roche-Posay and OutCare, Pride in Dermatology was designed to create a training program aimed at improving gender-affirming care and patient interactions as well as educating dermatologists on how to communicate with LGBTQ+ patients and practice with more sensitivity and affirmation. Previous studies conducted by OutCare Health have shown that a lack of gender affirmation from physicians can contribute to continued stigmatization and discrimination of the community and that LGBTQ+ patients who do not feel safe communicating with their physicians may be less likely to seek necessary dermatologic care.
