The Feinberg School of Medicine helped medical students, residents, and fellows across multiple specialties build their diagnostic skillsets during a recent workshop on skin diseases, according to a press release from Northwestern University. As part of the Advanced Physical Diagnosis workshop series—designed to improve trainees’ abilities to conduct thorough physical examinations—the recent workshop gave the attendees the opportunity to learn about various dermatologic conditions from patients, examine the patients’ skin with dermatoscopes, and inquire further about the conditions by communicating with the patients as well as dermatology residents. “Not only do the residents get to show all parts of the exam, but we get to hear about the patient’s experience through it. Learning is so much more effective when you can connect to a person,” concluded Lida Zheng, MD, Assistant Professor of Dermatology in the Division of Medical Dermatology and of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine at the Feinberg School of Medicine.
