Columbia University announced that Aimee Payne, MD, PhD, has been appointed Chair of the Department of Dermatology at the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons and Dermatologist-in-Chief at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Dr. Payne will begin her new roles on December 4, 2023.

Dr. Payne currently serves as Professor of Dermatology, Director of the Clinical Autoimmunity Center of Excellence, and Associate Director of the Medical Scientist Training Program at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. Her research focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of patients with autoimmune blistering skin diseases, such as pemphigus and pemphigoid. In addition, Dr. Payne developed a novel chimeric autoantibody receptor T-cell therapy to help treat patients diagnosed with mucosal pemphigus vulgaris and muscle-specific tyrosine kinase–associated myasthenia gravis. In recognition of these innovations, her laboratory was awarded the Clinical Research Forum Achievement Award in 2017.
