The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) announced that Seemal R. Desai, MD, FAAD, began his 1-year term as President of the academy as well as its sister association the AAD Association at the conclusion of the 2024 AAD Annual Meeting, which took place from March 8 to 12 in San Diego. He is the youngest person ever elected to this position. Dr. Desai currently serves as Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology and is a board-certified dermatologist at The University of Texas Southwestern—where he focuses his research on dermatologic diseases such as pigmentary disorders in patients with darker skin tones. He is also Founder and Medical Director of Innovative Dermatology. In his new role, he expects to address challenges facing the field of dermatology, advance the treatment of dermatologic diseases, and improve quality of life among patients with dermatologic conditions. “Every dermatologist has helped change the life of a patient who is suffering from a severe skin disease, and with the privilege of caring for patients comes the gift of being able to restore hope and joy to these individuals. This unity will be instrumental … as we continue to transform the lives of millions of people … in the United States and around the world,” concluded Dr. Desai.
