In a press release from the AAD, researchers revealed the current treatment options for pregnant patients with eczema or psoriasis and maintained the significance of including dermatologists in medical decisions for those who are pregnant or planning on becoming pregnant. The findings were presented at the 2023 AAD Annual Meeting. The researchers noted that moisturizers are often the safest options for managing these conditions and may be sufficient for those looking for symptom relief. Additionally, pregnant patients can take corticosteroids or undergo phototherapy to reduce flares but were advised to avoid immune-suppressing agents. The researchers concluded that patients who have eczema or psoriasis and are pregnant or planning on becoming pregnant should visit their dermatologists, who can discuss the safest and most effective treatment options and whether patients should discontinue any medications during pregnancy.
