A value-based outcome set—the first to evaluate psoriasis care in a value-based manner—was summarized in a report published by Hilhorst et al in the Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology & VenerologyThe set was put together by involving a systematic review, a patient panel, a patient ranking exercise, a literature review, and a pilot feasibility test. The outcomes determined to be the most important included symptom control, treatment efficacy, confidence in care, and disease control. The study authors concluded, “This value-based outcome set is a first proposal to evaluate psoriasis care in a value-based manner. Measuring these outcomes can enable us to critically appraise and improve current care processes, within the reality of available resources, thereby increasing value for patients. It opens up the discussion on applying value-based health care in chronic inflammatory skin diseases, through the poster child disease psoriasis, with a first exercise on what outcomes to measure as a reflection of ‘value.’”
